A Washington D.C Detective is targeted by a ruthless 'lifter', who wants to extract information by any means.

Assigned to the protection team is Agent Corte, who knows just how lethal and brutal the lifter can be.  Six years earlier, his mentor was brutally tortured and then killed by the same man.  Slowly, the situation dissolves in to a 'cat and mouse' game between the hunter and the hunted but who will come out on top?

A Slight Misfire From The Normally Brilliant Jeffery Deaver

Jeffery Deaver, author of the bestselling novel The Bone Collector, brings to us a stand alone novel introducing the characters Agent Corte and Henry Loving.

The problem with this novel isn't that it's a bad one. It's not. It's just that the quality set by Deaver's earlier books mean that the flaws in this one really show through.

The two main problems with this novel is that he keeps repeating himself and he spends the entire first half of the novel showing Loving to be superhuman in how he works but then the ending is incredibly anticlimactic.

I feel that those two flaws really hurt the novel. Hopefully his next novel will be back up to his very high standard.
