A year in the life of the co-founder of Motley Crue

When Motley Crue were at the height of their fame, there wasn't a drug that Nikki Sixx wouldn't try.  As the world came unglued around him and friends came and went due to his drug use, his fame grew larger.  Then the inevitable happened.  He hit rock bottom.  This is the story of that journey.

An Unflinching Look At The Perils of Fame And Drug Taking

Nikki Sixx is the co-founder of heavy metal legends Motley Crue. In the 80's they had the world at their feet. Fame, women, drugs of all shapes and sizes. They had it all. They also however had a major self destructive streak, none more so than Nikki Sixx.

His drug taking is the thing that myths and legends are made of and quite frankly I am surprised he's still alive after all the stuff he's pumped in to his body.

After getting clean, he decided to write this, a diary about his self destruction. It was a very brave move on his part.

No punches are pulled in these diary entries that he kept during his most dangerous drug filled days. At some times hard to read and other times incredibly touching, he has done a brilliant job of showing the perils and the way he has held himself accountable for all his actions.

I really feel that the way they set this book out is phenomenal. His diary entries are followed by passages written by the people that knew him best. Even Slash from Guns 'n' Roses is involved and, like Sixx himself, he doesn't pull any punches.

All in all this is a brilliantly written book. While both unflinching and brutal in places, it's also a book of hope and forgiveness.

Highly recommended, even for people who aren't Motley Crue fans.
