A Dream of A Book

While best known for his seminal role as Freddie Kreuger from the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ movie series, there is much more than meets the eye to Robert Englund.

From his humble beginnings to finding his love of acting and beyond, this book tells the story of how a quiet and intelligent man such as Englund came to be loved by both horror and movie fans.

This is a very well written autobiography with some moments of absolute honesty and hilarity. It’s obvious that while he takes whatever job he is given seriously, Englund really doesn’t shy away from making fun of himself at all. I also loved the two introductions by two other horror icons in the shapes of Wes Craven and Tobe Hooper.

Another good part of this book is when every chapter starts, there is a recollection of a real life nightmare from Englunds life. These sometimes range from mundane to the truly frightening and definitely sets this autobiography apart from the others I have read recently.

Some of the tales from behind the scenes of his movies are very interesting and written in such a way that they all are unique from one another.

The only bad thing I gleamed from his book is that just like Hasselhoff’s autobiography, I expected just a little bit more. I can’t place my finger on it but once I had finished this one, something just felt like it was missing.

That said however, this is a definitely worthy addition to any movie lovers collection.
