While most teenagers have to worry about acne and their voices cracking, Warren Worthington III has more pressing concerns.  The giant wings growing out of his back.

That's the least of his problems however.  He also has a vengeful rival and an ex-girlfriend to contend with and a crazed mutant hunter out to end his heroic career before it's even started.

Angel: Revelations tells the full story behind Angel's ascension in to the high-flying hero that X-Men readers know and love.

Brilliant!

Warren Worthington III aka Angel finally gets the origin story that he deserves!

For a long time Angel aka Archangel, has been a founding factor in the formation of the X-Men. In fact he is one of the most beloved characters in the teams history. However his appearance in X3: The Last Stand was disappointing at best but the release easily erases that from this fans memory.

The story itself is very well written. The blurb on the back of the book doesn't exactly make it sound essential reading but ignore that. It's much better than that. There are so many parts of Angel's character and personality revealed and explained that, in my eyes, the character itself is majorly improved. Why this couldn't have been the Angel in the X-Men movies I'll never know.

The artwork itself is sublime. The characters are drawn in a very disjointed, angular way and while that may sound a bit weird in a 'Nightmare Before Christmas' way, I think it really adds to the story. In fact, it gives the whole proceedings a Neil Gaiman meets Tim Burton air to it.

I would definitely pick this one up even if you're not a fan of the X-Men themselves. However if you are a fan, prepare yourselves for a brilliant origin story.
