In the original graphic novel 'The Road to Perdition' it is mentioned that Michael O'Sullivan spent 6 months robbing the mobs banks as the beginning of his campaign for revenge.
This is the first book in a trilogy, telling the tales of his travels with his son and of the adventures they have robbing the banks.
In a round about way, the story here kind of serves as a Robin Hood style tale. Yes he may be robbing banks but he leaves the money of those innocent behind and uses the money he takes to do good deeds.
The writing is slow paced and deliberate, which really suits this story. However it does drag a little in places but over all, it's pretty well written. It's really good to see the relationship between father and son during these escapades not fall in to cliche or be too sickly sweet.
The artwork is the same good quality as the original tale and really has a 'pulp novel' feel to it and I think that really adds to the general feel of the tale.
As a companion piece, it's a good release. It can also be read as a stand alone tale because they do add a couple of flash backs and a catch up moment in the beginning of the book as well.
A good start to the trilogy and I am personally looking forward to reading book 2.
