The world has many heroes...but only one is a god.

When the arrogant warrior Thor (Chris Hemsworth, Star Trek) is banished to Earth from his homeworld of Asgard, he must fight to reclaim his lost powers. Pursued by an invasion force sent to destroy him, the fallen God of Thunder must rise to the battle and learn what it takes to become a true hero. Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Anthony Hopkins (Beowulf ) also star in the blockbuster adventure.

The Mighty Avenger Rises!

And so it comes. Thor. Arguably the most difficult of Marvel Comics' stock of characters to adapt to live action (though Namor is probably pretty close). With a relative unknown as the lead, a Shakespearean actor behind the camera and the impending Avengers movie weighing down on it's shoulders, how exactly does 'Thor' stand up?

Brilliantly!! It's extremely gratifying to see such an accurate adaptation, which manages to be incredibly entertaining and thrilling at the same time. We zip between worlds, are witness to stupendous action and schooled on the mythology with a well balanced sense of humour off-setting any pompousness.

Hemsworth delivers an excellent performance, with just the right balance between cocksure & vulnerable, he's completely believable as the god of thunder, and his fish out of water experiences on Earth are highly entertaining.

Branagh has managed to balance all of the elements involved in adapting a comic book based on Norse mythology with incredible skill. Whilst his final action sequences are somewhat workmanlike, overall he's done an amazing job.

The supporting cast do a brilliant job, with hats off to Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston in particular. Portman is slightly lacking, though mainly due to a character with little substance.

Overall this is an excellent film and definitely a step in the right direction for Marvel Studios. I, for one, can't wait for the Avengers to Assemble!
