Marvel Does It Again!

Thor has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters due to my interest in myths and legends so I was very excited when they announced he'd be coming to the screen.

Chris Hemsworth does an amazing job with the character. Instead of playing him as a strong, unstoppable fighting machine, he chose to play as a hero albeit an incredibly flawed one. That really works well because it means that the viewer can really get behind the character.

Anthony Hopkins really adds an air of gravitas to proceedings as Odin and was a major coup for this movie. The other cast members such as Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgaard all bring forward some really good performances to. In fact the cast was incredibly well picked out.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Tom Hiddleston's performance as Loki. He brings a multi-layered performance to the character managing to make him both vile and hated while at the same time making him incredibly sympathetic too.

The music is used sparingly through out the background of the movie and used to explosive effect during the battle scenes. The special effects really make these battles burst off of the screen.

The writing here really adds intelligence to the story and gives the amazing cast some really good dialogue to work with.

The special features are sparse but very interesting, especially the featurette about The Avengers, hence the rather high score for a small amount of special features. Less is more as they say.

I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a good fantasy movie with a real brain to it and I especially recommend it to any comic book fans out there. You won't be disappointed.
