AKA Curse of the Anasazi

In 1590, a powerful Conquistador, Coronado, ordered a thousand of his most fearsome soldiers to find the legendary El Dorado - the lost city of gold. These men were never to return.

Now, 400 years later, an adventurous archeology professor and his students are exploring Mexico's Baja Peninsula and unwittingly wake a long dormant curse. Confronted by Coronado's long lost army - now a militia of skeleton warriors - the group find themselves in a life or death battle. But, how do you kill an army that is already dead?

A fantastic mix of Indiana Jones, Mars Attacks and Jason & The Argonauts, you'll soon discover to never trust a skeleton with a shotgun!

So Bad That It's Entertaining

Army of Darkness is a movie of two halves. Granted two badly acted ones but they're two halves nonetheless.

The first half of the movie seems to really drag because of the absolute piss poor acting by the cast. The only one that seems even remotely capable of acting is Stephanie Marchese and even then, she's little more than a B Movie Scream Queen.

The second half is actually pretty entertaining in a so bad it's funny kind of way. Especially when the skeletons turn up and the shit hits the fan.

One of the things I did like story wise was that when the skeletons kill someone, they shed their skins too and become skeletons.

The special effects are really badly done CGI although weirdly the skeletons look quite cool in a Harryhausen meets CGI kind of way.

Even though the movie is entertaining once you get through the boring first half, I can't honestly give it more than 2 stars at the most. That's because, in all honesty, it's not a very good movie.

Yes, I was entertained watching it but that's because of the unintentional comedy that arises from it being so awful. At one point a character tries to kick a skeleton in the groin.

The movie itself is pretty similar in tone and feel to the far superior Army of Darkness but that's where the similarities end. Where Army of Darkness gives a knowing wink to the camera, this one takes itself 100% seriously. Maybe if it had gone down the Army of Darkness route instead it would have been a better movie.

There are absolutely no special features on this release although I wasn't really expecting any from such a low budget movie.

If you're into your B Movie genre movies that are so badly acted that it's funny to watch then you will be entertained like I was. If not, then you are crap outta luck if you're expecting a great movie.

That said, how can anyone not be calmed by a movie with the tagline "Never Trust A Skeleton With A Shotgun"?
