Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
When the infamous Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban, the high secure prison for evil wizards and witches, it is thought he is heading to Hogwarts to attack Harry Potter. With this in mind, the Ministry Of Magic orders the school to be patrolled by the dangerous Dementors. Harry Potter finds himself being attacked by Dementors, dealing with prophecies of Lord Voldemorts return and the fear that Sirius Black may be in Hogwarts itself.
One of the more eventful episodes of the series, ‘The Prisoner Of Azkaban’ is the first in the franchise not to be directed by Chris Columbus. Taking his place is Alfonso Cuaron, who brings a darker feel to the series.
Daniel Radcliffe performs admirably as Potter, his performance being the strongest he has shown thus far. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have both improved as well, in comparison to their earlier appearances in the films. Michael Gambon takes over as Dumbledore, with the sad passing of Richard Harris. He brings a more fatherly feel to the character, something Harris lacked. Gary Oldman is the standout, delivering a brilliantly manic perfromance as Sirius Black.
The CGI is extremely good, however I feel that the werewolf is a little poor in it’s design. It just looks too spindly and doesn’t really present that much of a threatening presence.
Overall this is a marked improvement on previous instalments in the franchise, but still doesn’t match up to the next two films. Definitely worth watching if you’re a fan of the series, but its not going to convert any non-fans.
