10. REALITY BITES
Ben Stiller proved both his acting and directing chops on the 90’s classic ‘Reality Bites’, playing a hardnosed yuppie who falls for a free spirited Winona Ryder. Definately a movie worth rooting out if you have yet to see it.
9. DODGEBALL
Possibly controversially low on our list is this well loved sports comedy. Stiller plays an evil gym owner, attempting to close down a rival gym owned by Vince Vaughn. Quotable and fun, you just have to watch the trailer to see how good this is…
8. MYSTERY MEN
One of the first Superhero comedies to hit screens, and based on an actual comic (unlike the rather dire ‘Superhero Movie’ and the disappointing ‘My Super-Ex Girlfriend’), Stiller plays a character who believes that, much like the Hulk, he gets strength from his anger. But he doesn’t. Funnier than it sounds, Hank Azaria and William H. Macey support Stiller in this super-comedy.
7. MADAGASCAR / MADAGASCAR 2
Stiller is great as the over confident Lion in the Madagascar movies, but for us the it’s a real toss up between David Schwimmer’s neurotic Giraffe and the rather insane Penguins. All the same though, we could do without hearing THAT song ever again. It’s bloody irritating….
6. THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS
Gene Hackman leads an all star cast in this neurotic and rather insane comedy, that includes Stiller, Owen Wilson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Luke Wilson, Danny Glover and Bill Murray. I dare you not to find something in this movie that doesn’t in some way remind you of your own family.
5. NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM / NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2
Stiller stars as a security guard that has to deal with the displays coming to life in the family orientated ‘Night At The Museum’ movies. Funny and fun, if a little childish sometimes, the films have a multitude of stars, including Amy Adams, Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson and Robin Williams. Stiller never seems to struggle when it comes to finding a good cast to work with. And the T-Rex rocks!
4. MEET THE PARENTS / MEET THE FOCKERS
Yet again Stiller finds a great cast to work with, including acting legends Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman. Rumour is that there will be a third in this series, and that really can’t be a bad thing. Miss the days of ‘Heat’ and ‘Raging Bull’ De Niro though.
3. THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY
A movie that really doesn’t need any introduction. If you haven’t seen this classic gross-out movie, then you haven’t lived. With Cameron Diaz and Lee Evans, Stiller shines in a put upon everyman role that he excels at.
2. ZOOLANDER
Ben Stiller brings us one of the funniest movies to ever grace our screens, with a multitude of stars and some of the greatest comic scenes to ever hit cellulude. The film is endlessly quotable and not only shot Stiller to the top, it cemented the comic careers of Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell. It also has some of the best cameos, including David Bowie and Billy Zane.
1. TROPIC THUNDER
And number one in our list is the recent war movie spoof that took cinemas by storm. Stiller leads an excellent ensemble cast that includes Jack Black, Steve Coogan and Robert Downey Jnr in a scene stealing role. With a hilarious cameo from one Tom Cruise, Tropic Thunder is quite possibly the funniest movie in recent years, and is at the top of many lists….
