Law And Order: UK
Critically acclaimed US series Law & Order spins off into blighty with the aptly titled ‘Law And Order: UK’. The series is a rarity, as usually its the US taking British shows and remaking them, not the other way around. And in many cases this can be seen as a remake, as plenty of the stories in this series come from original US Law & Order scripts.
To be honest, I expected CSI to be the first to do this transition, with the much rumoured CSI: London, but that has failed to appear. However, that doesn’t mean we’ve been short changed here.
L&O UK is an intricate and thrilling look at the UK’s own legal and police processes, spending equal times with both the arresting officers and the legal teams tasked with prosecuting the cases. The writing is top quality, with each episode being a taut, winding tale, ‘whodunnits’ that are swiftly turned into ‘prove-its’.
The cast excel in their roles, with real highlights being Bradley Walsh, Jamie Bember and Freema Agyeman, the latter’s performance having really blossomed since her time on Doctor Who.
Well worth watching and I, for one, am glad it was renewed for a second season.
